The "Jeep Carrier" didn't need much of an Island as
it just launched planes as a resupply to the larger carriers during WW
II. You can see our fuel trucks and pickup trucks riding the trip
out on the flight deck.

The aircraft were coated with
thick latex to keep corrosion caused by salt spray to a minimum.
