This old man was a daily visitor to the Da Nang flight
line seeking continued survival. Somewhere he met up with the Marine
utility jacket, but maintained his Vietnamese heritage with the hat.
However, we don't ever remember him begging.

My best trainee. He was from Saigon, wanted
to learn, smart, hard working, dedicated to his country and would have
made excellent crew chief. We came together for a short time, both
trying to survive. After graduation he was killed on his first mission.

Another Vietnamese guard post
which was located behind our barracks and manned at night. It was not wise
to venture out the back door of the barracks and startle them in the middle
of the night.

Home and sand bags to keep sniper fire out.
If you came out at night you might be mistaken for a "bad guy" by Vietnamese
guards and end up in a crossfire from their two guard posts. We didn't
come out.
