Another external headed for the Grunts. Climbed
out IFR to VFR on top and headed west. Weather was improving and
the LZ was fine - from a weather point of view - probably a bit 'hot' otherwise
if around Khe Sanh.

Cpl. Miller crewed YK-14 until
it hit high time and was sent to O&R. He then inherited a humble,
cannibalized, YK-7. With some TLC and begged, borrowed and
stolen parts managed to make it air worthy and crewed it until his tour
was up in Dec 68.

YK-13 heading into a darkening sky. She was
an unusually unlucky bird. This day she came home in one piece thank
goodness.

September '68 dropped recon team off at Khe Sanh,
came back to picked them up a few hours later, remember chills going down
my spine. Not a sound or sign of any life. The base had already
started to green over. Feeling of surrealism which I can't put into
words.

We are landing at some base, probably Phu Bai, and
as usual want to impress those on the ground with a razzle dazzle formation
break. Frustrated helo pilots acting like jet jocks? No, they
all
could have been damn good ones!
