Rains of Time
© Warren Smith
I am sitting watching a strong summers rain in Bay City , Mi.
and my mind goes back to Danang - 1964.
The heavy rains are cascading from the French red tile roofs
of our French Foreign Legion barracks. We are US Marines and
we carry the same esprit de corps of the French Foreign Legion forward.
The water falls as it has for centuries and we
are much smaller than we think we are. It follows
a path set many generations ago, rapidly swallowed
by the washed sand between the barracks. We are
employed in the same industry of War as was the Legion,
and many other armies that have invaded down this
peninsula.
Where will it end?
Where it has always ended.
In the oceans that wash the shores of all continents,
slowly mixing the continuous flow.
The original storm is lost forever.
