From left, Lt. Michael Bonacci (sp) and 2ndLt. Thomas Drew Brindley, 3rd Platoon Commander, I/3/26 who was killed on killed on Jan 20, 1968. This photo was probably taken prior to Lt. Brindley arriving on Hill 881S.

Lt. Brindley by the 3rd Platoon CP.  It was abandoned on 21 Jan because it couldn't be improved to sustain the heavy hostile fire without engineer support which was unavailable and any more weight on top would have collapsed it.

The above-ground crappers were likewise abandoned on 21 Jan, for the same reasons, plus the fact that they used 55 gallon drums cut in half as receptacles, which meant we had to burn them, which meant that helos had to deliver diesel fuel.  Didn't make sense so Doc. Steinberg solve the problem with artillery round canisters place at strategic locations in the trench lines.
