The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the BRONZE STAR MEDAL to
UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS for service as set forth in the following CITATION:
"For heroic achievement in connection with operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam while serving as a Platoon Commander with Company I, Third Battalion, Twenty-Sixth Marines, Third Marine Division. On 19 January 1968, Second Lieutenant FRONME was leading his platoon on a patrol on HIll 881 South, when the unit came under intense enemy fire. With complete disregard for his Own safety, he aggressively moved forward and skillfully deployed his ten to more advantageous fIring positions. Ignoring the enemy fire around him, he moved from one position to another, encouraging his men and directing and controlling suppressive fire and air strikes on enemy emplacements. When helicopters arrived to extract the casualties he carefully reconnoitered the area, provided covering fire and ensured that all the wounded Marines were safely evacuated. The following day, when the entire company went on patrol to determine the sHe of the enemy force, the company was attacked by on estimated battalion of North Vietnamese Army Regulars and sustained numerous Casualties. Ordered to withdraw from his position near the crest of the bill to allow artillery fire to be brought to bear on enemy positions, Second Lieutenant FROMME quickly consolidated his forces and provided covering, fire for his men as they evacuated their casualties from the fire-swept area. his courageous actions and composure under fire inspired his men and were instrumental in his unit repulsing the attackers and accounting for 103 enemy confirmed killed, Second Lieutenant FROMME $ aggressive leadership, bold Initiative and unswerving devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service."
