Hill 881N as seen on 21 Jan '68. This is where
NVA set up many of their AA guns to shoot at helos, and where they set
up 122mm rocket sites to shoot at KSCB. Almost looks like the beautiful
Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.

Hill 881N as seen on 15 Mar '68. There were
no B-52 strikes there, that devastation was a result of close air support
directed by Cpl. Arrotta or by mortar and artillery prep fire as the Super
Gaggle flights approached with our food, water, ammunition, replacements
and mail.

This Purple Fox bird on final is probably from the
second echelon of the 10 bird flight. The smoke is a lot thicker.
Strong wind indicated from the colors. Always windy up there - 881meters
is just under 3,000 feet.

Hill 881S had been densely forested and now we were
left with many dead trees and large stumps which were hazards to landing
helos. We tried cutting them down but they were filled with shrapnel
which ruined our saws and axes. We resorted to blowing some out with
C-4.
